700 km hiking routes

700 km hiking routes

A dense net of hiking routes threads through the Vallemaggia in all directions. We only will mention those which are marked on our hiking map (total 700 km).

Main hiking path

You can find hiking routes leading through the Vallemaggia on a length of 120 km with an altitude of 250 m up to 2570 m (Cristallina-Pass). It’s the European path which connects Genoa to Hamburg, Ponte Brolla-Bignasco-Robiei-Cristallina is a part of the stretch. Branching of from the European path way: - in Cevio you find the path to the Val Rovana and there again a path is leading to the Valle di Bosco Gurin on one side and on the other side to the Valle di Campo. - In Bignasco you find the path through the Val Lavizzara, which splits up in Peccia in direction of Fusio-Naret or in direction of the Val di Peccia-Naret.

Highest mountains

Basodino (Val Bavona) 3272 m
Campo Tencia (Val Lavizzara) 3071 m

From valley to valley

There are 18 hiking tracks marked on the hiking map which connect the neighbour valleys (Verzasca, Leventina, Onsernone, Terre di Pedemonte) or the italian valleys (Antigorio and Formazza).

To the lakes

Of great interest are the walks to the 48 mountain lakes and 6 dams in the Vallemaggia. The highest situated mountain lake is Matörgn, above Robiei 2450 m above sea-level.

Walking chains

You can find them mainly in the valley floor and you can do them the whole year round. These walks offer the possibility to see the valley from different aspects and get to know the valley.

Panoramic walks

We would like to point out the panoramic walk from Someo to Bignasco and the walkway from Aurigeno to Dunzio, passing by the oratory of Camelo or the walk above Maggia to Coglio.

Danger

Often the rescue teams or airrescue has to save walkers which are in danger because they underestimated the unpredictable mountains. Information about the degree of difficulty, the length of the walk (walking time) and the own phisical limits and a suitable equipment are the minimal conditions to appreziate the net of hiking walks in the Vallemaggia evitating unpleasant surprises.
