The “Landvogt” For several centuries the Lavizzara Valley was proud to be an independent commune of the rest of the Vallemaggia. The “Landvogt” with residence in Cevio, now and then had to go to Sornico to do justice. Sornico, the centre Sornico: main village of the Lavizzara Valley. Several important buildings (Palazzo della Comunità and the church San Martino) show signs of the central role which Sornico had in the Lavizzara Valley. Peccia Valley The major part of the population lives in the commune of Peccia, which has the most inhabitants of the Lavizzara. Since 1946 there’s a marble quarry in the Gheiba and since 15 years there’s a marble school in Peccia. Prato Valley Only during the summer period people live in this valley. It’s ideal for walking. If you walk up to the Campo Tencia you reach the knew inaugurated alp hut Soveltra, which is starting point for many walks in this wonderful region. Antique planning The nucleus of Brontallo is an interesting example for the "spontaneous village planning" on a terrace hill. The houses are situated on the protected north part where as the agriculture buildings are situated in an area in danger of avalanges and stone falls. Almost the whole agricultural space you find on steep terrace hills, difficult to cultivate. Two dams and one road From Fusio (1281m) you can walk to the Sambuco dam (1461 m) and from there an asphalted road takes you to the Naret dam (2310 m), to a typical mountain landscape. From the dam manly known and popular walks take you to the Cristallina pass, to Robiei, the Bedretto Valley and the Peccia Valley.
